Review of The Sleeping World by Gabrielle Lucille Fuentes

Hello Readers,

After reading The Sleeping World by Gabrielle Lucille Fuentes I think it can be described in one word gritty. This book took you in the back alleys of spain and other major cities.  You were among groups of people who believe so strongly in their values that they are giving up everything else to make their voices heard. The story takes you among a group of friends who have chosen to be together but it really feels like they were thrown together and now they have to deal with the hand that fate has dealt them.

Mosca is the main character and she is weighed down by guilt, anger, and uncertainty, and above all she is determined to figure out the mystery about her brother who "disappeared" two ago by being taken by the police.  Mosca and her friends commit an act that steps over the line and because of what they have done it sets into motion events that can never be taken back. If Mosca wants to find her brother she must give up the life she knows and pull from her memory all of the things her brother said in past moments of their time together and during their childhood. As she finds more clues about her brother Mosca realizes that she is even more certain that her brother is alive and that she can find him. Mosca thinks that after she finds her brother then she can deal with all of the anger and guilt that she has been feeling since her brother "disappeared" two years ago.

This book was a bit of a struggle for me. I do not agree with many of the points of views of the characters and the main event that sets the story into motion upset me. It also felt like the story moved along very slowly. Certain parts of the story were very interesting to me. It was interesting to see how friendship and loyalty can be very different things. How a promise can change the course of your life and make you go on a journey you never thought of going on.

I would recommend this book for people who are looking for a political adventure story. This book has a lot to say politically and if that is something you enjoy reading about then this is the book for you.

Overall Rating - 2/5 Stars
