Review of Keep Her Safe by Sophie Hannah

Hello Readers,

I have never read any books by Sophie Hannah before, but when I saw the subtitle for her new book I knew I wanted to see what kind of books she could write that could pull me in based on subtitle only.
-
"She's the most famous murder victim in America. What if she's not dead?"
-
Whoa! That subtitle totally fascinated me and I wanted to figure out what really happened to the supposedly dead young girl. Keep Her Safe dives deeper into the obsession Americans have with true crime by introducing a character who is not even from the united states but from England. Cara Burrows has never even heard of the murder victim Melody Chapa, but when she is accidentally placed in an already occupied hotel room she comes face to face with a young girl and a man whose relationship to this young girl is not clear. The incident sticks with her and she can't help but think about the strange man and young girl that she intruded on the night before. As the Cara attempts to enjoy her stay at the beautiful five-star day spa she has checked into to escape her family she comes face to face with the fact that the young girl she met the previous night in undeniably Melody Chapa who is also supposed to be a tragically murdered seven year old. What did Cara actually see?

This book sucked me in completely. I kept thinking about the strange situation that Cara found herself in and I kept wondering how I would have handled the situation myself.  Since Cara is convinced that she did see Melody Chapa she becomes obsessed with the details of her murder case. Keep her Safe is written by alternating between present day and through the interviews, case files, blog posts, and youtube videos Cara finds on the interent. I thought the format was creative and I enjoyed reading all of the different perspectives of the case.

I recommend this book for readers who enjoy a murder mystery that is not too intense or overly descriptive. I appreciated the fact that I could read this book day or night and not feel uncomfortable, and for that reason I enjoyed this book even more. As I was reading Keep Her Safe I couldn't help but feel like it read a lot like an Agatha Chisty novel. The pacing and tone felt similar to me but set in current day.

Overall Rating - 3/5 Stars
